Patrick Boylan is a true citizen journalist. After more than 20 years in newspaper operations, Boylan started the Welles Park Bulldog in September 2009. Today the web-only publication and its team has won two Lisagor Awards from the Chicago Headline Club of the Society of Professional Journalists, nine awards from the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association and recognition from Chicago’s Community Media Workshop as a site that plays an important role in Chicago’s online news environment.
At the Chicago Tribune, He increased Sunday sales by 1,800 units per week, reopening several markets, negotiated distribution contracts resulting in savings of $1.3 million per year and coached four new distribution companies in their start-up.
As delivery manager of Precision Home Delivery (Chicago Tribune) launched and managed 145K deliveries of a TMC. Managed the launch of Exito (Hoy). Jane Rickard is a citizen journalist. By day a public health nurse in Chicago Public Schools, she picks up a camera or a jewelers saw at night. Her personal goal is to be a full-time creative, working with her camera and crafting her handmade jewelry. Referred to as the wrangler, Jane built the team of citizen journalists at The Bulldog.

Jane was awarded the Living Traditions Award by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann for her understanding of Dun Emer Guild textiles. Her award led to a two month residency at Ard-Mhúsaem na hÉireann (The National Museum of Ireland) in Dublin working with staff to identify Dun Emer textiles in the museum collection.
